Bloomberg reports on the data collection practices of smart cars and the ways the vehicles could use the information going forward. One company, Telenav Inc., is developing in-car advertising software designed to send drivers coupons based on the information the vehicle collects. Companies such as Telenav hope to offer incentives to motivate drivers to be more accepting of data sharing, such as lower insurance rates, gas coupons or, in Telenav’s case, a “freemium� version of the service. As the services gain more traction, smart vehicle manufacturers are ensuring drivers have the ability to opt-in to any form of data sharing.
